A 1-year-old girl was killed and her mother injured when they were struck by a car while crossing a Staten Island street Thursday morning.
It happened just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Abbott Street and Scarboro Avenue in the Rosebank section.
"I heard the mother screaming," witness Frances Garcia said."Everybody was running straight over there. When I got there, the mother had her whole body over the baby."

Long Island Plane, Helicopter Pilots Blinded By Lasers More Frequently Than Ever BeforeThe number of incidents involving lasers going into cockpits is on the rise. On Long Island, the FAA reports laser strikes soared from five in 2020 in 132 in 2021 – and accounted for more than half of the strikes in New York last year.
