Adam Sandler might be one of Hollywood's highest-grossing actors, but the Funny People actor has also had his fair share of box office bombs.
Adam Sandler is one of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood, but he’s also had his fair share of box office bombs throughout his career. Well before Netflix offered him a fair chunk of change to trade theatrical releases for streaming exclusives, Sandler starred in huge box office hits, including Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Grown Ups, and Just Go with It.
9 That's My Boy In That’s My Boy, Sandler plays a washed-up slacker whose illegal love affair with a teacher earned him celebrity status in high school. Andy Samberg, in one of his worst movie roles ever, plays the now-adult child born from that affair. After Samberg's character gets engaged, Sandler's absentee dad shows up to ruin the wedding. That’s My Boy cost $70 million to produce and grossed $57 million .
7 Spanglish James L. Brooks’ dramedy Spanglish stars Sandler as a successful chef with an insecure wife, who hires a recently emigrated Mexican woman and her daughter to work for the family. While the film is as moving and heartfelt as Brooks’ other movies, it wasn’t a box office success. Spanglish grossed just $55 million against a budget of $80 million .
5 The Cobbler In The Cobbler, Sandler plays a shoe-maker who can magically embody his customers by wearing their kicks. While it was a neat premise for a fantasy comedy, the film fumbled the execution. Facing stiff competition from other March 2015 wide releases, The Cobbler grossed just $6.5 million . The live-action remake of Cinderella appealed to the younger crowd and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel attracted the older crowd, so there was no one left to watch The Cobbler.
