NEW: New Orleans Police say ten people were wounded in a shooting after Bayou Classic football game early Sunday morning. 'When people resort to gun violence to resolve problems, it never creates solutions,' said New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
The shooting happened between 3:20 a.m. to 3:25 a.m. in the 700 block of Canal Street in New Orleans, according to New Orleans Police.
The victims were taken to local area hospitals with five going to University Hospital and the other five going to Tulane Hospital. The last person was a walk-in patient. The two people who are in critical condition suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and a gunshot wound to the torso, respectively. A person of interest has been detained but it is unclear if that person had any involvement with the shooting. At this time there is no evidence to suggest the shooting was terror-related.
