Pikes Peak racer is the heart of a pickup truck. Ready to roll coal this year is Cole Powelson's record attempt. The current diesel record is held by an F1 Pickup with help from a 6.7-liter Cummins. Powelson's GT-R uses similar diesel smoke on the mountain's dangerous curves. A 6.9-liter turbodiesel V-8 Powerstroke from a 2004 Ford F-series is at the heart of this thing.
Dai Yoshihara has a dream job: he's a professional drifter who competes in motorsports spanning from Global Time Attack and just wrapped up a big finish in TC America at his first racing visit to Virginia International Raceway. This is his fifth attempt at Pikes Peak. The Japan-born racing driver was the 2011 Formula Drift champion and was the quickest EV competitor last year behind the wheel of Evasive Motorsport's, finishing 9th overall.
