The boys were cooking on the dunes of the popular South Texas beach destination near Corpus Christi on Sunday when the fire happened.
Two 12-year-old boys accidentally burned 200 acres of land on Padre Island after attempting to cook some meat, according to the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
Fire Marshal Randy Paige said the fire took roughly 24 hours to fully extinguish. Nueces County ESD 2 posted on social media on Sunday that the fire was headed toward a marshy area and would eventually burn itself out but then posted on Monday that it needed to head back out to extinguish the fire.
