A 13-year-old girl found dead in an Akron alley died from a toxic mix of fentanyl and methamphetamine, the office of the Summit County medical examiner says.
Melanie Elkins was found June 12 near Minordy Place in East Akron, police said. Her body was behind a home in the 400 block of South Arlington Street.
The medical examiner’s office said Tuesday the cause of death “was combined fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity.” The manner, however, is undetermined.Police and the medical examiner’s office said in June that “there was no significant trauma noted during the autopsy examination.” Earlier this month, authorities arrested Keith Earley, 30, on charges of abuse of a corpse, failure to report a death and obstruction of official business. He is to appear in court Wednesday, Sept. 6.
