A 15-month-old child is recovering after being hit by shrapnel when a suspect fired a gun in an attempted robbery of the toddler's nanny Tuesday morning in Oakland, police say.
Two suspects approached both the child and another person and demanded the person's belongings. "There’s been at least two other assaults in our neighborhood this year," he said."It makes me want more police of course and it makes me afraid being an older citizen. We have five cameras on our house. Every time we go out, particularly in the evening, we wonder are we going to be safe." Last month police investigated a reported robbery and kidnapping on the same street, and last weekend a woman was robbed in the neighborhood. Police said robberies have increased by 3% over the last year.
