District Judge Joshua Keller accepted non-traditional DNA methods to trace the murder back to David Sinopoli, 68, who is charged in the murder that occurred 46 years ago.
Lindy Sue Biechler was murdered in her apartment in December 1975. Her slaying has remained a cold case for nearly 4 1/2 decades.Charges filed in the cold murder case of Lindy Sue Biechler in 1975 have been held for trial based on non-traditional DNA evidence a judge determined is sufficient for prosecution.
. One-by-one, they eliminated Lancaster County suspects from the pool before stumbling across Sinopoli, who lived in the same building as the victim at the time of the murder, according to prosecutors. After they had a name, police tailed Sinopoli to gather DNA evidence from a coffee cup at the bottom of a public trash can at the Philadelphia Airport, they said. The DNA in that coffee cup matched the DNA from the blood and semen found at the crime scene 46 years prior, according to prosecutors.
The exhibit also showed it was 31 trillion times more likely if the sample originated from Sinopoli and two unknown people, than if it originated from three unknown people, regarding the first blood stain from the scene of the crime, according to prosecutors.
