Iconic Terrifier 2 villain Art the Clown has made a surprise cameo appearance in the trailer for an upcoming legacy sequel Mutilator 2, a follow-up to the cult 1984 slasher. The Mutilator is a film revered by quite a few slasher fans for its uncompromising gore and its unusual setting.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY This week, LRB Productions shared the official trailer for 2023's Mutilator 2, the latest legacy sequel in a decade that has already given fans the highs and lows of films like Top Gun: Maverick, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, The Matrix Resurrections, and Scream.
Another way that Cooper shows his hand is that this film's peculiar meta premise is a heavy reference to the 2014 film The Town That Dreaded Sundown. That film acted as a remake, sequel, and meta-commentary on the 1976 film of the same name, which followed a killer through Texarkana in a storyline based loosely on real events.
In addition to the Terrifier 2 and The Town That Dreaded Sundown references, the Mutilator 2 is also obviously full of references to the original The Mutilator. This includes the giant hook on the wall of the garage, a weapon utilized in a grotesquely memorable scene.
