SALT LAKE CITY — Two workers were injured when a chemical tank exploded early Tuesday.
Dan Walker, division chief at the Salt Lake City Fire Department, said the workers had minor injuries resulting from the accident. One was taken to the hospital for medical care and the other was not. The eruption created a significantly loud noise, which was heard several blocks away, but it did not cause an extended fire. The explosion occurred near 1905 W. Fortune Road at about 5:30 a.m. Fortune Road was closed off Tuesday morning, from Wallace north. California Avenue remained open, officials said.
The property owners were at the building when the explosion occurred, Walker said, adding that there was some damage to the structure, but the amount is still being assessed.
