The three-year grant, STOP School Violence, will implement the Safe Communities Safe Schools program, a research-based initiative created in the wake of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting.
The U.S. Bureau of Justice provided the grant to CU’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence which intends to offer anti-bullying programs and mental health resources to stop violence before it occurs, the news release said.
Meanwhile, bullying and youth gun violence are also increasing, CU said, as mental health issues exacerbated by the pandemic stress already under-resourced schools.
