“It is with deep sadness we report that two BP staff injured in a fire at the BP Husky Toledo Refinery have passed away,” BP spokesperson Megan Baldino said in. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of these two individuals. All other staff is accounted for and our employee assistance team is on-site in Toledo to support our employees impacted by this tragedy.”
Firefighters were called to the refinery at about 6:13 p.m. Tuesday BP officials say the refinery has been “safely shut down,” but it remains unclear what caused the fire. WTOL reports that U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur spoke of the brothers’ deaths Wednesday night on the House floor in Washington, calling them “Responsible citizens, husbands and fathers who performed America’s essential work that drives progress and our American way of life forward.”, the refinery is a “‘cornerstone’ of the regional economy.” It can produce up to 3.8 million gallons of gas per day.
