Santos is set to be sworn in Tuesday when the new Congress begins.
As George Santos prepares to be sworn-in to the House on Tuesday, he will do so after prosecutors in Brazil announced that they are bringing back a 2008 criminal case against him.George Santos' name now hangs in the halls of Congress and there's no stopping his swearing-in to the House of Representatives Tuesday despite growing calls for him to step aside after he admitted to lying about much of his past.
Prosecutors suspended the case because they couldn't locate Santos until now. Prosecutors "were not aware of the address for citation of the said defendant, until now, a fact that motivated the suspension of the process and the course of the limitation period," a Ministerio Publico Do Estado Do Rio de Janeiro spokesperson said.
Questions were raised about Santos last month when The New York Times published an investigation into his resume and found a number of major discrepancies. Since then, Santos has admitted lying about having Jewish ancestry, lying about working for Wall Street banks and lying about obtaining a college degree.
"Campaign expenditures for staff members including travel, lodging, and meals are normal expenses of any competent campaign. The suggestion that the Santos campaign engaged in any unlawful spending of campaign funds is irresponsible, at best," he added.
