For many cars, a midcycle facelift involves making the bare minimum changes to advertise the model as"new." Designers massage the plastic bits, product planners sprinkle in a couple new features, and engineers cut a few hundred dollars of cost where they hope no one will notice. But"Buick luxury" doesn't make the same impression as, say, Lexus luxury or even Mazda luxury. The Avenir seems to be built around the idea that luxury is measured with a list of features rather than the complete driving experience. Buick points to the 19-inch wheels, clear taillamp lenses, black grille, and partial leather seats with contrast piping and stitching and the requisite embroidered headrests as proof of the Avenir's opulence.
