The 'Highway of Tears' is a 450-mile corridor of Highway 16 in British Columbia, Canada, where many Indigenous women have gone missing and or been murdered since at least 1986.

According to their mother, they were supposed to return home at noon but did not. Their father, Jim, drove to the beach to find them but was unable to do so. He returned to the beach again with his wife and both looked for them there, around streets, and at friends' houses.
Authorities spoke with a number of witnesses, who had apparently seen the children at a nearby reserve with aThere have been a number of suspects over the years, and, as late asMelanie Ethier , a teenager who went missing in New Liskeard, Ontario, and was last seen around 1:30–2 a.m. leaving a friend's house to walk home alone. Later that morning, Melanie's mother became concerned when she realized her daughter was not home and then did not show up to work later that day."She disappeared in 1996 when she was 15 while walking home from a friend’s house. To this day nobody knows what happened to her, and her mom made a group on Facebook about it to try and solve it.
