But Jokic dedicated himself to a regimented conditioning and weight loss plan before the 2019-20 season, and details fromduring this Nuggets playoff run revealed how Jokic revamped his individual MVP potential and Denver’s legitimate championship aspirations. Jokic started to lift weights after every game, regardless of playing time, for example, and cut soda, beer and video-game snacks from his diet.
Since then, Jokic has won two MVP awards and the Nuggets have made two Western Conference finals runs. The franchise can now celebrate its first title after former second-round project Jokic logged one of the sport’s great playoff runs while playing almost 40 minutes a game. Doncic, meanwhile, admitted to starting the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons in subpar shape, needing months to gain rhythm and endurance before reaching optimal pace.
