4 things voters should know about the Chronicle's investigation into Harris County's ballot shortage
Election workers at 20 Harris County voting locations said they ran out of paper
Multiple Republican election judges said the shortage was, in fact, far more widespread than the GOP's list – they said 121 locations ran out of paper on Election Day, referencing an often-cited KHOU story from January that reported 121 polling locations initially did not receive enough ballot paper to cover voter turnout.
Thirteen locations were located in precincts former President Donald Trump won by more than 10 points, three in precincts Trump won by less than 10 points, 11 in precincts President Joe Biden won by more than 10 points and two in precincts Biden won by less than 10 points.Election judges who gave the Chronicle an estimate said a total of up to 1,199 voters left their 11 locations without voting, while several others said they could not give an accurate estimate.
"The difficulty is that you would have to first know that someone approached a polling place and wanted to vote but, at the time they showed up, there were not ballot papers," said Mark Jones, a professor of political science at Rice University."The second is you'd have to know even if they, at that point, did not vote, that they didn't go somewhere else and vote.
