Starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey and cornerback Mooney Ward both went down with injuries in the first half and were ruled out for the game.
McGlinchey and Ward's injuries could have catastrophic ramifications for the 49ers. McGlinchey was the team's best remaining offensive lineman while star left tackle Trent Williams remains out with a high-ankle sprain. Now, the Niners will have to turn to backups at both tackle spots. On the other side of the ball, Ward was emerging as a star in his first season with the 49ers. The team's top cornerback became even more important after Emmanuel Moseley suffered a season-ending injury last week. With Ward on the sidelines, defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans was forced to turn to rookie Samuel Womack and veteran Dontae Johnson, who was on the practice squad before this weekend.
