Jeff Wilson Jr. had a 37-yard run to help key the touchdown drive, but, well, not much else to get excited about, and his last-minute fumble made for a fitting ending. This unit was too sub-par in a game the 49ers needed to protect their slim lead. Jordan Mason’s career average: 7 yards a carry; he only got one run, then came Garoppolo’s fumbled snap that set the second-half tone. Samuel: five runs, 6 yards.
Third-down conversion runs by Wilson and Melvin Gordon on the go-ahead touchdown drive were crushers. Is that enough to wipe out all the solid run defense earlier in the game? Well, you play to win the game. The 49ers allowed 100 rushing yards for the first time in 11 games, including playoffs. They forced two fumbles, recovered none. The Broncos repeatedly tested the 49ers’ interior that was missing Arik Armstead .
