Legolas and Gimli are two parts of a great Lord of the Rings friendship, but their story didn't end when Frodo destroyed Sauron's One Ring. Beforehand, each played a significant part in the war, and their journey with the Fellowship of the Ring changed their stories forever. They made friendships they wouldn't have expected and fought alongside those they would have once considered their enemy.
Legolas & Gimli Traveled Together After Lord Of The Rings Shortly after Legolas and Gimli became friends in the Lord of the Rings books, they began telling each other about their homes. Thanks to the competitive nature of their relationship, they each claimed that the place from which they had come was more beautiful than that of the others. From there, they would discuss the most beautiful places in Middle-earth—and again disagree about who had the better claim.
After Gimli and Legolas visited the caves , the dwarf decided that he wished to settle there. He returned to Erebor in the Misty Mountains and got leave from the king to bring some of Durin's Folk to settle there. Gimli became the first Lord of the Glittering Caves, which grew to be one of the most important Dwarven settlements in Middle-earth.
Middle-earth's poor condition after Lord of the Rings meant that many elves were leaving the continent for Valinor, also called the Undying Lands. However, Legolas' care for the friends that would be left in Middle-earth led him to intervene. It took many years, but the Mirkwood elf traveled from place to place and used his skills to plant new trees and dispel any remaining evil that Saruman had left behind.
