Come on, Disney!
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Although The Nightmare Before Christmas told a complete story and didn’t leave room for a sequel, it actually set up five spinoff movies that Disney has completely ignored for three decades. Back in 1993, the world of animation was taken by surprise with the release of The Nightmare Before Christmas, directed by Henry Selick with a story by Tim Burton .
The Nightmare Before Christmas takes the audience to Halloween Town, where as the name says, Halloween is the most important day of the year. Halloween Town is populated by monsters and other beings associated with Halloween, among them Jack Skellington , the town’s “Pumpkin King”.
The closest there is to exploring the rest of the holiday doors in The Nightmare Before Christmas is when the Easter Bunny is kidnapped and taken to Halloween Town, as his kidnappers mistook him for Santa Claus. The Easter Bunny was a large, pink bunny with long ears and a white sash that reads “Happy Easter”, and he jumped back into the bag when he realized he wasn’t in Easter Town anymore.
Why Holiday Spinoffs Would Be Better Than The Nightmare Before Christmas 2 The Nightmare Before Christmas gave proper closure to Jack and Sally’s story by having them declare their love for each other and fixed Jack’s Halloween/Christmas mess, leaving little to no room for a sequel.
Holiday spinoffs would be the best way to expand the universe of The Nightmare Before Christmas, rather than finding ways to stretch the stories of two characters who already got a perfect ending. Although it seems unlikely that Disney will go back to explore the universe of The Nightmare Before Christmas, if the studio ever decides to do it, it should seize the potential of the other holiday towns.
