We all have scars — some are just more visible than others.
, she touches on a lot of themes I’ve been ruminating on lately: family, acceptance, and learning what you can and cannot control. “There were two or three years where I was fighting the world, and then was like, ‘No. I’m still beautiful with my scars.’ I got tired of telling people how I feel about what I can or can't control anymore, so I just started accepting it. I just let it flow.”
"You've just got to live life knowing that at the end of the day, if it doesn't want to, you shouldn't want it." She reveals this relentlessly positive outlook has come from her mother, who has always told her to “make it happen, don't matter how, don't matter where — just make it happen." She says that she doesn't care about her journey, as long as she gets to her intended destination. Still, this doesn’t mean her journey has been without roadblocks. Early in her modeling career, she tells me a photo of her was posted on the Internet that was not received kindly.
Ultimately, for her, it boils down to perspective and having a realistic mindset. “I'm just doing what I have to do. Sometimes I think my scars are beautiful because they signify survival and recovery and the physical strength of my body. But at the same time, aesthetically, I would not choose this. I'm not happy with the way that it looks, but it's fine. I don't feel like there needs to be anything flowery surrounding it. It is what it is.
