Many employers have ramped up mental health and other benefits to provide support for their workers during uncertain times.Texans are experiencing higher-than-average rates of anxiety and depression, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation report.
Gallagher has worked at the University of Houston for eight years and specializes in ways to build resilience to and recover from stress disorders. “We all experience anxiety at some point in our lives, but there’s times where for various reasons anxiety becomes a little too much,” Gallagher said. “It’s a very common issue and it’s something we can treat very effectively if we can get people into treatment. “We have people working from home, flexibly working. Yet even so, we have incredible rates of anxiety around work,” he said. “They’re dealing with performance pressure, deadline pressure, conflict with bosses and co-workers. And we want to figure out how to reduce or curtail some of that anxiety.”
