The MCU is headed towards the big event of Avengers 6, titled Secret Wars, and Phases 4 and 5 have set up the movie in eight key ways.
Avengers: Secret Wars is the big event the MCU is headed for, and Phases 4 and 5 have begun setting it up in numerous different ways. In Marvel Comics, Secret Wars first began as a major crossover story in the mid '80s, complete with a Mattel toy line tie-in.
7 Variants Are A Big Part Of Secret Wars A major element of Secret Wars, and by extension any general multiverse story, is the concept of alternate versions of characters appearing side-by-side. In the MCU, these are known as variants, with Loki, What If...?, No Way Home, and Multiverse of Madness each incorporating variants in different but critical ways.
In the first Secret Wars comics story, Kang is actually killed by Doctor Doom , with Kang not being involved in the subsequent 21st century Secret Wars story, in which Doctor Doom is a major villain. With Kang being positioned as the MCU's new Thanos and Doctor Doom not having been introduced in the MCU at all yet, Kang's role in Avengers 6 is likely to change the story, as is commonplace in comics-to-movie story adaptations.
4 Venom Has Visited The MCU Spider-Man: No Way Home would bring an assortment of villains from the web-head's past non-MCU movies into the story, while Tom Hardy's Venom would be a brief but nonetheless important trip to the MCU.
Additionally, despite the Illuminati being wiped out in Multiverse of Madness, there is nothing to prevent other variants of each of them from appearing in Secret Wars. Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier in particular could be a prime candidate for such a comeback, Stewart having essentially played three different versions of Professor X in his tenure and going through three death scenes with each of them.
