The $10,000 cap on deducting state and local taxes will go away in 2026 even if nothing is done before then.
Rep. Mikie Sherrill kicked it off Thursday when she announced that she would introduce legislation to increase the deduction limit from the current $10,000 to $100,000 for individuals and $200,000 for married taxpayers filing jointly until the cap expires at the end of 2025 as provided for in the Republican tax law.
