I think we bonded over Stephen Sondheim. I’m not a musical theater actor—I mean, in my dreams, I’d love to be. I’ve listened toa million times, and she’s a very astute student of musical theater, so when I started singing, of a beautiful friendship. We go for long stretches of time where I don’t even see her—we both have children and busy lives, and she’s got three or four businesses and a film career, and I’m doing different things and living in L.A.
You could probably say that about most marriages at some point. I thought it was, again, that thin line of making something that’s not overly maudlin and crying in your beer. It’s typical Michael Patrick King: put in a little Tabasco sauce.
