More than 55 years after he threw his last pitch for the Dodgers, Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax will be honored with a bronze statue at Dodger Stadium this season.
The statue will be unveiled in the Centerfield Plaza at the stadium on June 18. It will stand beside the statue of another Dodgers legend — Jackie Robinson.
The first 40,000 fans in attendance at the late afternoon game against the Cleveland Guardians will receive a replica of the Koufax statue. "Not only are both of these Hall of Famers part of our rich Dodger history, they are also continuously inspiring sports fans everywhere," said Dodger President and CEO Stan Kasten.Koufax was Major League Baseball's first three-time Cy Young Award winner. He retired with a 2.75 ERA, 137 complete games and 40 shutouts.
In 1972, Koufax became the youngest player to be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame at the age of 36.
