Major announcements from both the Venice and New York Film Festivals have arrived—and with them, the inevitable trail of Oscar buzz that follows.

The film community is coming off a successful in-person Cannes Film Festival which introduced several great films and a few potential Oscar players. You feel the wind in its sails. Venice, which had a very limited physical festival last year, is expected to return in full force in 2021, bolstered by A-list talent and highly anticipated titles.

Still to come are lineups for Telluride, whichhears will return to its Oscars table-setting glory after taking 2020 off, and Toronto, skewing a bit broader so far in its announced titles and with continued uncertainty around restrictions between the U.S.-Canadian border, amid the rapidly spreading Delta variant of COVID-19.Kicking the season off, the Venice Film Festival runs Sept. 1 to Sept. 11.
