Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and House Speaker Dade Phelan have been reportedly negotiating on next steps for a property tax cut deal, as the legislature publicly appears to be at a standstill on the deal.

between chambers: the House passed its compression-focused plan, and then adjourned; the Senate passed its homestead exemption-focused plan and has not taken up the House proposal. On Monday, the Texas Senate convened for about 30 seconds before recessing until Thursday, with little work possible.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick tweeted several times on Monday, marking similar notes but still advocating for increasing the homestead exemption. House Republicans have largely stuck to their compression-based proposal, including up to Monday when a group of freshman representatives penned an open letter, backing their plan.

Regardless of whether or not a second special session is called for property tax cuts, Governor Abbott and other leaders have already indicated there will be multiple special sessions, including one Abbott has confirmed will be"We need to deliver on the promise to parents that parents will have the ability to choose the education pathway best for their child," Governor Abbott said in a public bill signing on Monday.
