As abortions in states with restrictions plummeted after the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the total number in the United States increased.
"Unfortunately, after viewing this latest round of data, corporate media has jumped to the conclusion that the rise in abortions is due to women in pro-life states traveling. WeCount’s data makes no such conclusion. While we do know travel is a contributing factor, it is not reported to be the only factor," Longbons added.
For example, while Texas and Georgia had the largest decreases in abortions at 36,970 and 19,660 fewer, massive spikes occurred in Illinois , Florida , and other states. Illinois is surrounded by states with restrictions, whereas Florida has a 15-week restriction in place with a heartbeat bill pending. Florida is surrounded by more restrictive states, explaining the spike.
