Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's original plans for the Miles Morales variant that appears at the end of the movie reveal that the film's ending tricked the audience. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse broke many records, far surpassing the original film's box office to become Sony Animation's biggest movie ever, setting up next year's sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, nicely.
According to the artist, that Miles variant was not always destined to be the Prowler, with the team behind the movie originally envisioning the character as "an athletic vigilante." This seems to make it clear that the Prowler variant of Miles is not actually a villain as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's ending led to believe, with the film tricking the audience into believing that Miles was in danger to build suspense for next year's sequel.
