Reenactors from the Revolutionary War were part of the Porter County Museum’s quarterly living history program which sheds light on different periods in history.
Continental Army and British soldiers got along well during their visit to the Porter County Courthouse lawn. During the Revolutionary War, a skirmish took place along the Lake Michigan shore at what is now Indiana Dunes State Park.
The 8th Regiment traipsed all over the area, trekking to Vincennes in southern Indiana. A display of common items a soldier might have had is shown during a Revolutionary War reenactment on the lawn of the Porter County Courthouse in Valparaiso on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The event was sponsored by the Porter County Museum. “It was definitely a rough start for the Continental Army,” Morfey said. The soldiers were fresh, relatively disorganized and had problems getting paid.
