Angela Lansbury, star of the long-running series 'Murder, She Wrote' and dozens of other film and television projects, has passed away at 96 years old.
“The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday,” her family said in a statement to NBC News and“In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Ian, plus five great grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury,” the statement continued.
Lansbury appeared in more than 70 movies, including the classics Gaslight , National Velvet , The Picture of Dorian Gray , Samson and Delilah , The Court Jester, , The Long, Hot Summer , The Manchurian Candidate , Mame , Bedknobs and Broomsticks , Death on The Nile , Beauty and the Beast , Anastasia , Nanny McPhee and Mary Poppins Returns .
She was honored with the 2022 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2022, although she was not present to accept it as the coronavirus was still tearing through the New York theater community.
