Flanked by a bevy of backup dancers, the comedian’s musical number got crazier the longer it went on, featuring a blast of pyrotechnics, a juggler wearing a Meryl Streep mask and a surprise appearance by Samantha Bee to protest Devine’s assertion that the genre was full of “middle-aged white guys sitting behind a desk.”
Devine’s homage to the old-school variety show then climaxed with a full marching band, a yeti with confetti and a stilt-walking Larry King impersonator.
