This takeover came after the arrest and conviction of several of Paterson Police officers over the last few years.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is no longer overseeing the Paterson Police Department’s internal affairs division after a string of poor police conduct led to a 17-month takeover, the office announced Friday.

During its oversight of the department, the office said it made numerous changes and recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the department. Some of the changes included: During the oversight, the department purchased and installed audio and video recording equipment for an interview room, where interviews related to internal affairs investigations can now be recorded, the office said.
