Larissa Muniz was struck by a vehicle while crossing East Broad Street in Bridgeton on May 10 and remained on life support at Cooper University Hospital for 2 1/2 weeks., including bleeding on the brain and major internal damage, and was taken off life support Sunday, according to her mother, Pamela Fowler. The child died shortly after 4 p.m. that day, Fowler said.
Sierra A. Thomas, 28, of Bridgeton, surrendered to police May 11, hours after the SUV she was driving in the crash was found in Vineland with the license plates removed, according to police.She was originally charged with third-degree counts of knowingly leaving a motor vehicle accident that resulted in serious injury and endangering an injured victim.
Following Larissa’s death, Thomas was charged Tuesday with a second-degree count of knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Thomas was charged on a summons and remains free pending a state Superior Court appearance scheduled for July 6.Fowler thanked for the community for its prayers and support for her daughter.Her child’s organs were donated, Fowler said, with the most important donation being her heart.
“Even as a child, she was a giver, so as she was leaving this Earth she gave all that she could,” her mother said.
