Michael Hawkins' transfer to Frisco Emerson followed a racist incident in Allen, but according to his father, the move has been a 'blessing in disguise.'
The four-star Oklahoma commit has led Frisco Emerson to a 7-2 start as one of the Dallas area’s best quarterbacks.
But since arriving at Emerson and leading his team to a 7-2 start, Hawkins Jr. is finding the place where he feels he belongs — one that welcomes him unconditionally and offers an environment in which both he and the program can rise into the spotlight.“The main thing for me was going somewhere they would want me and are willing to develop me as a quarterback, but also a man outside of football. I found that place here,” Hawkins Jr. said.
Hawkins Sr. said he called the police twice after moving and left messages but his calls were never returned. Allen police did not respond to multiple phone calls from“It just made me more aware,” Hawkins Sr. said. “It made my kids more aware. But when your faith is strong, and God is your source of strength, you just continue to move in that fashion.”“It wasn’t hard because our kids had already played together,” Emerson head coach Kendall Miller said.
