William Eklund was recalled by the San Jose Sharks from the AHL on Friday.

Eklund, 20, considered the Sharks organization’s top prospect, has played 52 games for the San Jose Barracuda this season and has 17 goals and 41 points — tied for third-most among all AHL rookies.

Eklund will likely play Saturday afternoon when the Sharks host the Washington Capitals to close out a seven-game homestand. Last season, Eklund appeared in nine NHL games and had four assists before he was returned to Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League, where he played in 29 games and had one goal and 13 assists.

The five-foot-11, 181-pound Stockholm, Sweden native was selected in the first round by the Sharks in the 2021 NHL Draft. The Sharks completed multiple trades Friday, sending forward Nick Bonino to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of a three-team trade, and Vladislav Namestikov to the Winnipeg Jets. The Sharks received Arvid Henrikson and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick in the Bonino deal, and a 2025 fourth round pick for Namestnikov.
