Ahsoka has always been able to bond with animals.

Despite not knowing where the whale will take her, Ahsoka trusts the enormous purrgil enough to place herself and Huyang in its care. Hopefully, it will take them to where Ezra, Thrawn, and Sabine have gone.
The fact that Ahsoka is even able to bond with the purrgil in the first place speaks to a very special Force power of hers. And unlike Ahsoka’s new psychometry Force power that she’s suddenly developed, her ability to bond with animals is something she’s had from the beginning. Interestingly enough, Ahsoka has also met at least two other Jedi who possess a similar ability as her.
Ahsoka's First Use Of The Force Saw Her Bond With An Animal One of Ahsoka’s earliest stories was shown in Tales of the Jedi, long before she’d been taken by Plo Koon to the Jedi Temple. On her home planet of Shili, Ahsoka was taken as a baby by a sabertooth-like tiger, known as a raxshir. Despite many of her family and friends assuming the worst, Ahsoka was able to connect with the raxshir using the Force.
Ahsoka's Purrgil Moment Has A Deeper Meaning Ahsoka has had the ability to bond with animals through the Force from the beginning, but she surprisingly almost never uses this ability throughout The Clone Wars or Rebels. But the fact that Ahsoka has reawakened this ability in Ahsoka episode 5 shows just how important her vision with Anakin was. Ahsoka refused to kill Anakin in her vision. She rejected the path he’d walked as well as the darkness within her.
Ahsoka’s new outfit, her improved attitude, and her rediscovered ability to connect with animals all point to her rebirth as a character. If anything, her ability to connect with the purrgil proves she’s returned to her roots. She’s no longer the sad and stoic former Jedi searching for meaning; she’s regained and redefined the reason she fought as a Jedi in the first place.
