Bush Airport's air conditioning malfunctions Monday afternoon as temps rise
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Houston was forecast to hit a high of 97 degrees, with a heat index as high as 105 degrees Monday.
The airport said it was installing temporary chillers meant to supplement the air conditioning system and provide relief to travelers while its crews evaluated and expedited the necessary repairs. "Houston Airports is working with airline partners and airport stakeholders to ensure passengers at Bush Airport have access to free bottles of water, should they need it. Inspectors with Houston Airports are also walking all five terminals to monitor the temperatures inside the airport," according to the Tweet.
According to Melissa Correa, a communications senior staff analyst for Houston Airports, Bush Airport offers 567 daily flights during the summer months, welcoming in around 134,000 passengers to the airport a day.
