Christopher Blue, 19, will not be eligible for parole until serving at least 24 years in prison for the 2021 slaying of Owen Barzal, according to a news release from Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. Blue was sentenced by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Kelly McLaughlin.
The sentencing comes after a jury convicted Blue on July 17 of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. On Oct. 12, 2021, police were called to the 1400 block of Bernice Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. They found Barzal, who had multiple gunshot wounds, in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Police say Barzal was able to drive a short distance after being shot.
Prosecutors say Barzal was shot after being lured to the home by Blue.
