When it's too hot for a splash pad, it's simply too hot. 🥵
Former Fairhope Mayor Karin Wilson blamed the water restrictions on the city’s population growth, and a lack of infrastructure improvements in past years.
But the mayor acknowledged that the city is moving forward with infrastructure projects that should help, although not immediately. The city has the same number of water wells as it did at least 15 years ago, at 11. At the same time, Fairhope’s population has grown significantly from around 15,000 residents in the mid-2000s to more than 22,000 residents in 2020.
Water consumption is not the only utility under stress. For city electric customers, the increased energy usage from the 100-plus degree weather will affect monthly bills.
