A man charged with stealing a car got unlikely help twice - from police - after the car stalled.

William Thornton | [email protected] police say Roddrecuz Winston, 29, is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on $60,000 bond.

On Wednesday, an officer patrolling the area of Cox Creek Parkway and Chisholm at about 10 a.m. saw a stalled vehicle. But the vehicle stalled again and was parked at Fairgrounds Park. The driver, later identified as Winston, was taken to the Salvation Army. Police later received a call from the actual owner of the stalled vehicle, saying that it had been stolen from his residence. The thief, according to the owner, had to have entered his residence to get the key.

Police say an investigation revealed Winston as the perpetrator. He was later arrested and charged with first degree property theft and second degree burglary. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
