“People should care because as citizens of the world, we must unite, we must bond and must collaborate to make sure these monstrosities never happen again,” said Anahita Maleknia, one of the organizers of the protest in Birmingham.
A group of roughly 100 protestors gathered at Birmingham’s Linn Park Saturday in opposition of the Iranian government and in support of women’s rights.
In solidarity, some Iranian women have removed and burned their headscarves during protests while chantingAmini’s death sparked large-scale protests across Iran that have captured the world’s attention and fueled protests like the one in Birmingham. Anahita Maleknia, one of the organizers of the protest in Birmingham, said this incident is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corruption within the Iranian government.
“My family and countless others cannot contact loved ones in Iran because of it, it is truly terrifying. The death toll is rising and the Iranian regime is trying to silence their people’s voices. We will make sure that does not happen.”
