The National League starter in Saturday’s minor league All-Star showcase has a chance to become part of L.A.’s pitching legacy.

LOS ANGELES — Bobby Miller grew up as a Clayton Kershaw fan, even though he was living in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

The start of the All-Star festivities in The Ravine, a 6-4 American League triumph, might also have been a reminder that the home club’s pitching legacy keeps regenerating. Fellow Dodger prospects Cartaya and second baseman Miguel Vargas went 0 for 1 and 0 for 2, respectively, though each scored a run. Angel prospect Ky Bush pitched the fourth inning and gave up a hit and a walk but no runs. Among players with SoCal high school ties, Spencer Steer was 0 for 2 while Pete Crow-Armstrong was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored. Ricky Tiedemann pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

Miller finally got a full minor league season in 2021, with a 2-2 record, 1.91 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 14 games at high-A Great Lakes, and three rough starts at the end of the season at Double-A Tulsa. He was back on the Dodger Stadium mound this spring for the Freeway Series, a brief appearance before being sent back to Tulsa that included a strikeout of Shohei Ohtani.

“Our pitching coach, Ryan Dennick in Tulsa, he knows a ton,” Miller said. “I go to him for just about everything. I’m buying into a lot of stuff he says, and it’s been working out. It’s still a work in progress. He carried a 4-3 record and 4.12 ERA in 15 starts at Tulsa into the Futures Game, but struck out 82 in 67-2/3 innings and struck out a career-high 10 in six innings and nine in five innings in his most recent starts. Walks are occasionally an issue, but his Double-A WHIP is 1.17.
