"Once again I ask Congress to send me a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Enacting universal background checks. Requiring safe storage. Ending immunity for gun manufacturers. I will sign it immediately. We need nothing less to keep our streets safe," he added.He also said he is grateful for the first responders on the scene, and that he has directed federal agencies to provide support to local officials as needed.
News of the shooting emerged yesterday evening as Biden headed to church. As he left the church, he told reporters who asked about the shooting that he was"unaware" of the situation. The President was later briefed that night when he returned to the White House.
