New benchmarks reveal AMD's Ryzen 9 7950X3D up to 39 percent faster than the standard 7950X
Far Cry 5 was up next and Far Cry is well-known for responding well to faster CPUs and here the 240fps achieved by the $699 Ryzen 9 7950X3D dwarfed the Ryzen 9 7950X’s 182fps – a difference of 32 percent while also soundly beating Intel’s Core i9-13900K, which managed 215fps. The new AMD CPU was 16 percent faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X and 11 percent better than the Core i9-13900K in Shadow of the Tomb Raider which being four and five percent faster respectively in Metro Exodus.
The last game – Star Control – showed much less difference between the CPUs, with the Core i9-13900K edging out a small lead. It’s clear that not all games will benefit from the extra cache on the new 3D V-Cache CPUs, but results so far seem to tally with AMD’s own claims of an average 16 percent uplift in frame rates on average across numerous games it tested.
