The measure has already drawn support from the American Bankers Association and other entities in the financial services sector, but it failed to reach a vote in the U.S. Senate despite a late-year push after minority leader Mitch McConnell spoke out against the measure.
American Express marks the sole credit card company to lobby specifically for HR 1996, although Mastercard Inc. MA lobbied in favor of past versions of the measure up until 2020, along with Wells Fargo & Co. WFC and Citigroup Inc. C up until 2019 and Travelers Cos. Inc. TRV , the report said.
