The number of people served has steeply declined since late last year, with 5,500 asylum seekers in February, down from 37,000 in December.

The facility helps lawful, asylum-seeking migrants with services to help them get to their respective destinations after being processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security.
But the city’s migrant assistance began even earlier. From January 2021 to December 2022, it spent nearly $13.8 million transporting migrants to the airport and on the building lease, maintenance and security, said Deputy City Manager María Villagómez. FEMA is now granting millions of dollars upfront for cities that provide aid to migrants rather than repaying them after the fact.
