Jordan Geronimo offers athleticism and physicality to Maryland, which brings back much of last year’s NCAA tournament roster.

“After the loss to Alabama, the biggest thing I realized is that we just weren’t athletic enough at times,” Maryland men’s basketball coach Kevin Willard said of last year's season-ending defeat. Willard turned to the transfer portal seeking an upgrade. It yielded forward Jordan Geronimo, who became one of the offseason centerpieces in Maryland’s bid to challenge the likes of Purdue, ranked third“After the loss to Alabama, the biggest thing I realized is that we just weren’t athletic enough at times,” Willard said Tuesday during Maryland men’s basketball media day at Xfinity Center.

“I was a big,” Geronimo said of his role with the Hoosiers. “Being a big in the Big Ten means you have to be physical. In practice, I’m just trying to prepare the younger guys and guys who don’t know what the Big Ten is like, how it is, whether it’s setting hard screens or whether you’ve got to box out over taller people. I’m just trying to prepare the team for what’s going on, and that’s how I bring physicality to the game.
